Buying a Clydesdale

The Breed

A selection of Clydesdales for sale can often be found in our advertising section. Our Secretary can also put you in touch with a broad selection of owners and breeders who can help you and at a price to suit your budget. She also knows those breeders who have cross bred Clydesdales available if you want something that is not a real 'heavyweight'.

Transporting animals to and from the UK is not a major problem. There are several very reliable, competent, horse transporters who regularly make the journey. They can offer part loads and come highly recommended. Exporting horses to Europe and beyond can also be arranged, along with the necessary veterinary checks, etc. Transport costs across the Atlantic and to the Southern Hemisphere, however, are very high in comparison with Europe, with animals having to go into quarantine for a period prior to departure.

All "Registered" animals (mares, fillies and stallions) have been parentage tested by blood typing or, from 1999 onwards, by DNA typing. You can always verify matters with the Secretary prior to purchase. Geldings however, are not registered and the Society can not give any categorical information as to their breeding
