The Stud Book is published annually (with the exception of the years with very low breeding numbers).
Each year 12 to 20 stallions are registered and there are some 70 covering mares today. Currently, there are probably over 500 breeding mares in the UK and around 300 younger fillies, although exact numbers are hard to come by.
All fillies are parentage tested at the Animal Health Trust before they can be registered, as are all stallions prior to registration. Only those animals with verified parentage are allowed entry to the Stud Book as fully registered.
The current edition (2007, Volume 113) of the Stud Book costs £10.00 (plus £1.00 for postage) and is available from the Secretary.
The Secretary will also have copies of the Stud Book to sell at the shows where she is in attendance.
