Amateur Photography Competition 2018


We are looking for the best photograph of the ‘Clydesdale Horse(s)’ in whatever setting you think fit.

How to enter

Simply send a print of your photograph with your full name, address, email and telephone numbers on the reverse side.  The images must be a minimum of 7” x 5” and no larger than 10” x 8” and be minimum of 300 dpi.

Entry is free!

Entrants are limited to 3 entries.

Please note we are unable to return your photographs.


The closing date for entries will be 28th May 2018 and the result will be announced at the Royal Highland Show on Thursday 21st June 2018.


First Prize – £50.00   

Runner up – £25.00

Special Prizes at judge’s discretion!

The winning photograph will be used as the cover of the 2019 CHS calendar.


The judge is Mary Bromilow, author of “The Clydesdale – Workhorse of the World”.

 We will exhibit as many photographs as we can on the Clydesdale Horse Society stand and/or Clydesdale Horse stables at the Royal Highland Show.

General rules / Terms and Conditions

All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party.

The entrants must be the sole owner of copyright in all photographs entered and must have obtained permission of any people featured in the entries or their parents/guardians if children under 16 are featured.

Where an individual or a residential property, belonging to someone other than the photographer are featured, the photographer must seek permission and be prepared to provide written consent, if requested.

Entrants must not have breached any laws when taking their photographs.

We are looking for original photographs, taken by amateur photographers, NOT professionals.

Entrants will retain copyright in the photographs that they submit to the Clydesdale Horse Society (CHS).

By entering the competition all entrants grant to the CHS the right to publish and exhibit their photographs.

If photographs are chosen for publication (either on the Facebook page Website or other publications) the CHS may require a digital copy of the photograph and the entrant should be prepared supply one.
